I mentioned in this post that I was digging the Crazy Stripe items from Gap… I liked them so much I got some for all of us and we decided to use it in this year's holiday card! Emerson loves this sweater and wears it all the time. I didn't think Karl would adore the scarf, but he also wears it quite often. I wear my sweater too, as you can see in this blog post. I just love how happy and cheerful the color combination is, and that it's not specifically holiday. We took these pictures in our living room with a self timer and white backdrop. We took only three photos, and two made the cut! Emerson is the one who suggested the peace signs!
We had the first photo on the front with Peace, Love, and Joy on the bottom and this photo on the back with a wish for a happy 2018. I would show you the cards but I underestimated the number needed and sent out every single one. However, I have these photos to remind us that while 2017 wasn't the best, we have each other, we can remember the good times, and head into a new year with strength and a positive outlook!
FYI, I am wearing the sweater in XL. This sweater is not a relaxed/boxy fit, but more of a tailored shape and ends high hip. I bought Emerson the sweater in L hoping she'd get another year out of it, it too runs small and shrinks a bit even when following the laundry instructions. It fits her now, but I'm not expecting it to work after this year. Crazy Stripe is currently on sale, I may buy a larger one for Emerson to have on hand for next fall so we can twin again! And for those wondering, Karl's sweater is Banana Republic from a couple years ago; this full-zip sweater looks like a similar fabrication and color.

Annie Spratt My family and I have been battling some sort of cold for what feels to be all winter long. It hit me Friday. I woke up all congested and achy but thanks to some motivating texts from my sister I got dressed and ready for the gym. But when I went downstairs I…
Living in the DC area, we’re lucky to have several awesome music venues, and come summer there’s a type of venue for any type of music fan. One of my favorite music venues in the summer is Wolf Trap; it’s not close by, but they have a shuttle from the Vienna Metro station and it’s…
Life has been super busy this past month and I realize I haven’t been too chatty on here. Oh sure, advice posts and a couple outfits thrown in, but little with what’s going on beyond the blog. Emerson’s enjoying kindergarten so much, and it’s crazy how much she has changed since she began school. She…
For those who have little ones who watch Sprout, you may have their version of the birthday song become your home’s standard song for special days. When we sing, “Happy Birthday to You” Emerson is meh, but if we sing, “Happy happy birthday to you, to you, to you!” she gets all excited and dances…

“Omigod Alison, you’re SUCH a Carrie.” It was 2000 and I stood in the circle of store manager friends at an Express district meeting, wearing the brand’s black microfiber bootcut pants and matching longline blazer with a large pink fabric peony pinned to my lapel. I wore it because I liked how it…
I was just watching this Christmas’ Gap commecccommeercial (during Colbert) and thinking … wait that was good but this is better and I didn’t even realized the three of you were wearing Gap. Next year I hope it’s your family in the Gap commercial.
I really enjoy your blog and appreciate that you actually include some text rather than just photos/links to products with a quick line or two. I was a little worried for you when you left your job but it seems to really be agreeing with you! You look happier and healthier.
I may be over-doing it with my comments, but I can’t help myself: you look so happy and full of life. I am contemplating some changes in my life, spurred by some circumstances that I wish were different. You are a great example and role model of taking a risk, rolling with the consequences, and moving strongly towards happiness.
I read your blog pretty much daily, but not sure I’ve commented – you guys are so cute! I wish you all the very Merriest Christmas and all the best for a happy, healthy and wonderful 2018!

Aww thank you!
Happy holidays to you, Emerson and Karl!
And to you too Sonia!
Those are really fun! And a great idea for a family picture. Wishing you all a wonderful 2018.
Thank you Julia, wishing you the same! <3

That’s so great to hear, thank you Susan! I do feel this has been a good change for me, my family, and I think the blog!
Lovely pictures. I love the sweaters, as you say they are really cheerful.
Thanks Catherine!
You all look adorable!
Thanks Michelle!

Such a great post, Laurel! Trends and style transcend the closet to many other areas, most especially home decor!
