What I Wore: Silk and Linen
For years I shied from linen. I'm already a klutz who often has a dribble of coffee on her shirt, a smear of cream cheese on her cuff. To add wrinkles and creases to my look would just make me look like a slob. If you go through my archives, rarely will you see linen or even 100% cotton. If it can wrinkle, I usually don't even buy it. But I saw these bright yellow linen pants at Talbots and couldn't resist.

These wide-leg linen trousers come in white and yellow, and that amazing range of regular, plus, and petite sizes that Talbots offers. The pants are fully lined, so they're not see-through and in typical Talbots fashion, are designed so that as the linen stretches with wear, the lining doesn't strain to keep up. Seamed pockets often gape on my curvy lower half, but these sit pretty nicely while still being functional.
I went Resort with this look, styling the pants with a silk shirt and heeled sandals. However, these pants also look awesome with a striped top (wore this exact shirt with these pants) or message t-shirt and some cute sneakers, and this summer I plan to wear them with a loose camisole and flat metallic sandals. I mentioned these shoes in this hit or misses post, and I really love them. Suede is a hot shoe fabric for this spring and summer. This bright magenta is that unexpected color that will go with everything because it matches nothing. These sandals come in a good range of colors, are surprisingly comfortable, and look great with pants as well as dresses in a variety of lengths and silhouettes. I expect these shoes to get as much wear as my Naturalizer ‘Adelle' sandals I got last spring (and will be wearing this year as well!).
I got this bag in Rehoboth Beach on one of my trips there last year. I always buy accessories on travel; it's a great way to remember your trip and add unique touches to your wardrobe. I love silver accessories, but silver bags are usually too… much for relaxed looks. I have this one from Topshop that is awesome but I often choose a different bag because it alone makes too much of a statement. I loved how this one is so casual and beauty while still having the silver shine. I never heard of this brand before but found when writing this post that this bag line is sold at Anthropologie (and that I got a super good deal on this clutch! Dang I don't think I even spent $50 on it!). This specific bag is no longer available anywhere online so I linked above to a similar concept on Etsy, my other favorite place to find unique accessories!

Love this look! I just purchased a yellow denim jacket and was wondering what to pair with it. Now I’m inspired. I also love how you are not afraid to tuck your shirts in. I’m always so self-conscious about my little tummy bulge under the waistband. Any tips on how to pull it off?
I think this needs to be an upcoming blog post! But my quick tips:
– Wide waistbands. It helps smooth the tummy and gives a better transition to the lower belly
– Slightly blouse out your top, but not a lot. Seriously, just enough to hide muffin top or upper softness. When you blouse it out more it only emphasizes the lower belly sticking out below. Having yourself go in at the middle de-emphasizes the belly and when you blouse too much you lose it.
– Consider a belt. A belt draws attention, minimizing everything else around. A contrast color slim or skinny belt with a shiny buckle is your friend.
– High-waisted underwear. When the belly is super smooth underneath, it blends better with clothing. I love Soma’s Vanishing Edge Briefs (http://bit.ly/2JRvftg ) which go up high enough without being frumpy and have literally no VPL.
I am in love with this whole outfit right down to the clutch. Those shoes! I need them in my life.

Nice pants. i think the tailoring of the pants and the lining make a difference. I wouldn’t have thought about yellow pants being such a versatile wardrobe item.
I used to worry about linen and the wrinkling detail too. But then I figured, I need to embrace my wrinkles…both on my face and on my clothing…ha ha!!

Want to hear the definition of paradox? It’s me who hates wrinkles and irons EVERYTHING, yet loves linen shirts and pants. You had me at yellow and wide legged. The deal was sealed with the magenta shoes. Soooo Spring!
