In the Wardrobe Oxygen community, a member asked where to find stylish longer necklaces as she wished to layer chain necklaces but the popular 16″ length was too short. She wanted 18″ and longer and was asking for sources to find such necklaces. And then the same week, a reader of Wardrobe Oxygen emailed me also looking for trendy necklaces longer than 16″.

Having Wardrobe Oxygen for two decades, I went into my archives to see if I had written on this subject before. And I had… but it was back in 2010! The content was so dated, some of the retailers I recommended are no longer in business. On top of that, jewelry trends have changed quite dramatically since then, and I decided to delete my dated advice and write new content just for 2025 necklace trends.

Not all necks are the same size, and that's normal

I am considered petite in regard to height, but I am not in regard to bone structure. I need rings larger than a size 8, bangle bracelets often are too small for me to get over my hand, and a 16″ necklace would not just be a choker but would literally choke me. I understand the desire for longer necklaces.

A lot of popular jewelry brands carry necklaces in only one length, and it's usually 16″, maybe with a 2″ extender. But I have found some really great retailers that carry longer necklaces that incorporate the popular jewelry trends. We all deserve to wear what we wish, and I hope this is a useful resource to help you achieve the style you deserve on your terms, in your size!

Necklace Trends in 2025: chains, stacks, and statements

Necklaces have become more delicate this decade. From paperclip necklaces to stacking mixtures of chains and delicate pendants, necklaces are most often worn at a length from just at the bottom of the neck to an inch or so below the clavicle. Even statement necklaces in 2025 are a shorter length that hits just past a crewneck sweater or peeking out of the collar of a button-front shirt.

To figure out what length necklace you need, you need to know the size of your neck

Necklace guides on jewelry websites are usually based on a person having a 14″ neck. I am a size 14, and my neck is 16″ in circumference. If I measure at the bottom of my neck, where a necklace sits, it's even larger. I am a pretty average size for a woman in the United States, so it's no surprise that those “guides” are not helpful, and many of us need necklaces longer than 18″ in length.

Me and my 16″ neck. And proof of longer necklaces to achieve current jewelry trends!

I have learned to add 2″ to these necklace guides since they are based on a 14″ neck. This means that while 16″ – 18″ necklaces are the most popular lengths right now, I need 18″ – 20″ length necklaces to accomplish the same effect. I encourage you to grab a tape measure and measure your neck size so you can do the same.

In the photo above, I not only show my 16″ neck, but also proof that you can find on-trend longer necklaces to achieve the jewelry looks of your dreams. Ana Luisa

Ana Luisa is a retailer I have recently become a fan of. The pieces are usually 14K gold on brass, and I have found them to be highly durable, maintaining shine and style through showers, pools, hot tubs, oceans, and hard gym workouts. With sensitive skin, I don't have any reaction to Ana Luisa rings, necklaces, or earrings. Ana Luisa carries not only larger sizes of rings but also longer lengths of necklaces.

Unfortunately, you can't filter by chain length, but in the photo above, I am wearing theย Ana Luisa Pebble Necklaceย on its longest setting (22″) and theย Mini Pebble Necklaceย on its longest setting (20″).

Gorjana

The herringbone necklace I am wearing in the photo above? It's the Venice necklace from Gorjana, and it has to be at least three years old. It, too, has survived and thrived through sweat, pools, and oceans. It is available in 17″ and 20″ lengths; I am wearing the 20″ length.

Gorjana lets you filter necklaces by length, offering over a dozen styles 20″ or longer. Gorjana even has layering sets that start at 19″ with a 2″ extender.

Etsy

Etsy is my go-to for finding stylish necklaces in longer lengths. Sadly some of my favorite sellers have gone to one-length necklaces, but there are still many that let you choose your length. A few I found that are all USA-based:

  • Caitlin Minimalist: An L.A.-based jewelry line on Etsy since 2014, I have personally shopped Caitlin Minimalist multiple times for a custom length name necklace for my daughter and a custom length birth year necklace for myself. Caitlin Minimalist has grown so much, there is now a separate retail site but it doesn't offer custom lengths. This is why I still recommend the Caitlin Minimalist Etsy shop.
  • JustJaynes: A Michigan-based shop on Etsy since 2007, JustJaynes specializes in sterling silver and stainless steel but also carries gold filled pieces. While JustJaynes has the popular paperclip and delicate pendant necklaces, it also has more intricate and larger pendants and chunkier chains in custom lengths. Free shipping on orders $35+ at JustJaynes' shop.
  • Libertad: Based in California and on Etsy since 2022, Libertad has thousands of positive reviews. Not only offering a range of different kinds of chain necklaces in whatever length you desire, you can also find name necklaces, family name necklaces, pet necklaces, and necklaces in Hebrew, Greek, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, and English at Libertad's shop.
  • Three Suns: A California-based shop run by a mother and daughter team, Three Suns specializes in the popular charm necklace trend. Offering the trendy carabiner necklace as well as charm necklaces on classic chains and even freshwater pearls, you can customize length as well as chain style and which charms to add at Three Suns' shop.

These are not the only Etsy sellers that have longer length necklaces; if you use the site's search function and enter custom length necklace, you will find plenty of other sellers with a variety of styles and metals.

Miranda Frye

Miranda Frye carries demi-fine jewelry, which means gold-filled, sterling silver, and genuine gemstones at reasonable prices. I have shopped Miranda Frye for larger-sized rings and know necklaces are offered in at least two lengths, the popular length (17″, 18″) and then one 2″ longer, and sometimes a third 2″ longer than that. You can find the popular styles of chains, solitaire necklaces, a few pendants, and of course necklace extenders.

Automic Gold

Automic Goldย is a queer-owned, self-funded jewelry brand. All pieces are made from reclaimed gold, and arrive in a packaging that is recyclable. Necklaces come in multiple lengths (some only two, some several) and come in your choice of 14K white, yellow, champagne, and rose gold. Automic Gold is a US-based company that offers free shipping and returns and a lifetime guarantee.

  1. CHICO’S! Even if you aren’t “of a certain age”, you’ll love their necklaces. )Though I stick with the choker lengths, from the side, a long necklace just looks like it’s rapelling off the cliff that is my rack.

  2. I was just a Michaels (the craft store) & they had 72″ chains fairly cheap…I bet you could make something really cool with stuff from there. They had amazing charms and add ons.

  3. If you like handcrafted items, I love etsy. Kohl’s, Banana Republic, Target (in store only though) and I actually saw some really awesome necklaces at Walmart the other day, definitely costume jewelry, but cute and affordable.
