Another rainy day in DC, I figured how better to battle the weather blues than with a bright red dress? When I tweeted that I received this gorgeous necklace from my Stella and Dot stylist Kristin Biggs, Stella and Dot suggested I pair it with a bright color. I had plan on going goth and wear it with gray or black, but decided to try their suggestion… and I really like it! I was worried about this necklace – I have a thick neck and feared it would be a choker on me, but was pleased to see there's plenty of chain length to adjust. I like it as-is, but since this dress is so straight and simple, I used a hair elastic to extend the chain so it would hang on more of the dress.

  1. I love the outfit! The necklace pops against the bright dress. How do you use a hair elastic to extend your necklace?

    1. On the extender chain, the last jump ring I will either loop a hair elastic and have both loops go into the clasp on the other side, or else will loop it through the ring so it knots on the jump ring, and then have the long loop remaining hook into the clasp. Since my hair is long and the elastic is my hair color and thin, no one can tell unless I do an updo! 🙂

  2. You look great! I tend to wear brighter colors on rainy days too. I bought the Revlon Lip Butter in Fig Jam and I thought of you. That’s probably weird. 😉

  3. I’m going to have to say yes to this dress (and that awesome necklace) and I am chuckling at your “go goth” statement. At our inserivce meeting yesterday our superintendent said he wasn’t going to have kids “walking around, looking dead” and then ended by saying “What the hell is goth?” It’s the little things, really.

  4. What a way to brighten a rainy day! You look gorgeous in red. Seriously.
I just replied to your email, btw. 🙂

  5. That red is stunning on you! Is that a shift dress? It’s simple, flattering and so striking. Love that look!

  6. Love the dress with the necklace (and the leopard print!) but to me the booties make it a bit evening/club-esque. (Though I concede, it might just be the lighting making me think of evening…) That said, I think as the dress is that little bit shorter a more conservative black shoe (such as a closed-toe pump) would have taken it down a notch.

    1. It’s funny, I tried it with a pump and thought it looked too formal and evening! 🙂 These have become my go-to shoe when it rains because it keeps my toes high above the puddles and they have a gripper sole which keeps me sturdy on slick sidewalks.

      1. Depends on the workplace I guess as to what level of formality is appropriate! 🙂 Do you not find the open toes annoying in the rain though?

  7. Love the necklace with this bright dress, Allie! And your cool black shorties always elevate your look. Shine on through the rain, gorgeous!
